Your Past: Prelude not Prediction

By: 0

Definition of prelude. 1 : an introductory performance, action, or event preceding and preparing for the principal or a more important matter.

Your past isn’t a prediction; it’s a prelude.

If my past was a prediction, I’d be dead right now. I was raised in a single-wide trailer in the boondocks of South Georgia. I come from a background of abuse – drug, domestic, sexual. Pretty much all of the biggies are there.

I tell you this because it is true.

No matter where you are right now, or where you came from before,  things can (and will) be different.

How that “different” manifests is largely up to you.

Things in 2018 could be amazing, or they could be absolutely shitty, but they will be different. That’s just life. Look at where you were five years ago. Chances are, you thought, “OK, this is how my life is going to be.” Now look at where you are now – and how much has changed.

Some of that change was probably out of your control. Maybe you lost a job, or a loved one, or maybe you had an unexpected financial windfall. But most of that change was directly related to your choices and what you actually did between then and now.

It’s the quiet time between Christmas and New Year’s. Take a minute. Know that your life isn’t static. Know that you are always in a prelude. Then decide what 2018 is going to be. I believe you can do it. As long as you have a breath to breathe and a heart to beat, it’s not too late.

I am sending love and hope for each and everyone of you.
