We’ve all heard it at some point in time from a medical professional, a friend, a family member or even a spouse—“You should work out.” Often times if we don’t currently live an active lifestyle and have said this same thing to ourselves, it can affect us in a negative way. Our thoughts take over our common sense and we believe that we’ve gone “off the deep end” when others verbalize our internal thoughts. I’m here to tell you that it is never too late. You can make a comeback from anything whether you fell years ago or just last week. Here’s some helpful “when, where, and why” tips on getting started with a fitness routine!

When:  NOW. You don’t have to wait until tomorrow, next week, next month or the beginning of the year. Making New Year’s resolutions often times end up unsuccessful because we stress ourselves out limiting ourselves to a year to get things done. You should set a goals, but if you’re just starting out, use the SMART method- Small, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.  Your journey to a healthier you should never have a time cap. Getting fit should become a part of your everyday routine; a lifestyle.

Where: You need a welcoming, encouraging and supportive environment. At CrossFit Algiers, we not only focus on getting your healthier and stronger physically, but we also focus on the mental aspect of fitness as well.  Our gym is a motivating community of folk from every fitness level who are seeking the same thing you are—to become fitter. You’ll have that accountability aspect that’s needed in any fitness journey. Coaches and fellow athletes looking for you to show up to classes can be quite the motivator. We invest in each other’s success at CFA. Having a fitness family backing you can make all the difference in the world to your success.

Why: Regular exercise has been show to improve your health. Being active can help you achieve those goals you set out to accomplish whether it’s to reach a healthy body weight for your body type, build muscle, build endurance, or increase energy. A regular exercise routine has also been shown to lift your mood, boost confidence and even help you sleep better.

Lastly, don’t think of getting healthier as a chore. Think of it as an everyday routine that not only can provide short term benefits, but long term success!
