Westbank Warrior of the Month – August 2018
Name: Sara Moore
Occupation: Insurance Broker
Which class do you usually attend? 5:15 am
Favorite WOD: Weightlifting
Favorite Lift: Deadlift
How long have you been CrossFitting? 1.5 years
What keeps you coming back? The Rush of doing better each time. During work outs not only are your coaches cheering & pushing you, but so are the other athletes.
How did you find CrossFit? My bonus mom signed me up for boot camp and when they asked if I was interested in joining (after only 6 sessions) “No” was not in my vocabulary.
What is your athletic background? Danced & played tennis in high school, that sums it up.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness? I feel more confident, I feel more comfortable in my skin. I am not so worried about how others see me physically because I feel so strong and the only thing that aches now is my muscles from my work outs, not my bones because I was getting older & bigger!
Is there something you have done here that you never thought you could do? Um, pretty much everything.
What motivates/inspires you? The accountability. Since I attend the same class each day, I show up not just because I want to see my fellow athletes in the early morning, but because I believe they would wonder where I am. I don’t want to let them down either. I constantly remind myself every morning when the alarm goes off that I have to get up if I want to have a great productive day.
What goals have you achieved so far, and what else do you want to accomplish? I have lost 55 lbs. I ran a 5k last September after training on my own over the summer. I want to lose more, but I am not as focused on the scale as I use to be. I know that I am building a stronger body that will last me much longer then a “skinny” weaker body.
Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? I love to play tennis but still have not found time to fit that back into my schedule. So if you are reading this & want to play tennis, call me! That will motivate me to get back into it! I am trying to run loving!
Any advice for new members? Take it day by day. I never thought CrossFit would be my workout of choice. Each day you learn a new movement, you scale it and then the next time you push harder. CrossFit has a great tool to track your progress. I have come to love the community of people I now call friends. The support this group has provided others in their time of need and challenge is something I have really not seen before. We all start out as strangers but have become family. I have lived in Algiers for 17 years. I have only made a few friends through my kids’ school, but they are not the same kind of friends as CrossFit Algiers. I feel so comfortable to reach out to my CrossFit Algiers friends today, tomorrow or in the future if I need advice, help or guidance in anything (not even gym related)!
