Which class do you usually attend? 6:15 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.
Favorite WOD: No favorite, but I like AMRAP workouts. They are always challenging.
Favorite Lift: Squats and deadlifts.
How long have you been CrossFitting? Six months.
What keeps you coming back? I’ve never been around so many positive and encouraging athletes and coaches. Jodi and Andy are amazing!
How did you find CrossFit? A very dear friend of mine invited me to try out a boot camp in March for six weeks, then I knew CrossFit Algiers is where I needed to be! I was hooked!
What is your athletic background? I’ve been a member and Spin Instructor at a traditional gym for 11 years now. I’ve done yoga, Pilates, and all the group classes. Found myself looking for a little more challenge now.
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle and level of fitness? Since joining CrossFit Algiers, I’ve made so many amazing new friends. I call them my “Bad Ass Friends” and love them all. Everyone knows I love to cook, eat, and occasionally have a cocktail. It’s the athletes and the coaches that keep me coming back, with their great attitudes and motivation.
Is there something you have done here that you never thought you could do? There are so many things I’ve done here that I never thought I’d be able to do. Real push ups. When I started boot camp, I could hardly do any. Still working on the pull ups, but getting better. I haven’t mastered the rope yet, not sure if I’ll ever, but I’m gonna keep on keeping on! I do love the weightlifting. I’ve noticed muscles in my arms I never knew I had. Feeling confident and strong. Balance, strength and mobility are very important to me, especially at my age.
What motivates/inspires you? My husband motivates me every day. When I first told him I wanted to try CrossFit, I thought he was going to tell me I was crazy. But instead, he told me GO FOR IT! I think he’s pretty proud of me. Also my grandson who is almost five keeps me on my toes. New challenges every week motivate me. Everyone I come into contact with at the box inspires me. I keep telling myself “Age is just a number.” I may not be able to do everything, but I’m going to keep on pushing forward.
What goals have you achieved so far, and what else do you want to accomplish? I want to master a strict pull up and ring dips. I’m pretty proud of my deadlift. My main goal is to continue working out, get stronger, staying positive and hopefully not looking my age. And having fun doing it. Like Coach Jodi told me months ago, “You’re a lot stronger than you think you are.” I truly believe that now.
Hobbies/interests outside of CrossFit? I love movies, cooking, fishing with the hubs, swimming the beach, and my two yorkies, Reggie and Chloe.
Any advice for new members? Try something new. CrossFit is something I never thought I’d be doing right now. Just wish I’d started sooner. Stick with it, keep going, don’t look back and keep moving forward. It’s what I’m doing! And if I can do it, anyone Can! We are definitely stronger together, and that’s what CrossFit Algiers has shown me.
